Combi Boiler with a small built in water cylinder

I am in the market for a new boiler, I currently have a 17 year old open vented system with a hot water tank. My plan was to replace it with a sealed system buying a new boiler and a new tank with the option to fit solar water heating. Now the "new" government has put back the RHI for domestic users until Oct next year I have decided to forget the solar hot water. What this means is I could save a lot of money and get a Combi boiler which should be sufficient for our hot water needs.

What are anybodies thoughts on the Combi's which have an built in small water tank. I had budgeted for quite an expensive system so I can stretch to a better system, my main requirments are reliability and as efficient as possible, I assume a Combi meets the efficent requirment.

All domestic boilers sold in the UK should meet current energy efficiency requirements, whether they're combi boilers, heat only boilers or system boilers.

You should have your boiler sized and specced for your house, not your current needs as you never know when your needs may change, or what the needs of a future owner will be. How many hot water outlets (baths/showers/basins/sinks/washing machine etc etc) do you have?

There's no reason why you couldn't go some way towards your original plan by having a system/heat only boiler and twin coil cylinder fitted, that way your cylinder will be solar-ready if you decide to go down that route in the future

There are two of us and we have a single bath and a shower, we have had a plumber come and size the system and a mid range combi is fine.

My question is has anybody got experience on the these combi's with built in water cyclinders. Is there an advantage.

The advantage is a higher hot water flow rate compared to a normal combi, but often only until the store is depleted, which can happen quite quickly on some models

If you fit a decent sized combi it will give you all the hot water you need, combi's are all to do with flow rate! don't go for your entry level 24kw! Smash a 42 kw Worcester in!
