hi. cold water is gone from bathroom sink tap upstairs. cold water is fine in bath and in sink downstairs in kitchen, all hots are fine too. all water comes in from outside mains so there is no tank in the loft. any ideas? air lock maybe! if no simple solution will get a plumber out. Could this cause any potential problems in the meantime, build up of pressure somwhere maybe? thanks for any replies.

There won't be an air lock if the cold is at mains pressure, and nothing will come to any harm, either. Maybe the jumper of the tap (the bit that holds the rubber washer) is stuck down?
John :)

Are you sure there is no service valve, that someone may have turned off?

thanks for replies. is the jumper something I could check myself? would need to look it up first, sorry Im a bit rubbish. there is a service valve where I have turned off the water before but this turns off all water in to the house. cheers

Indeed you can - hopefully the tap will have its own isolator valve anyway but the water supply will have to be shut off one way or another.
Then its the top off the tap to reveal the tap insert that is unscrewed with an adjustable spanner. If its an individual tap you'll have to prevent it from rotating, too.
Just in case you get into any bother, it may be worth fitting a tap isolator valve if yours doesn't have one....nothing worse than finding the tap won't stop running when the water is turned back on! Not being scaremongering here but the odd jumper does split.
John :)
