Seat Toledo 1.9 se tdi 2001 the clocks wernt working when i got the car . I picked up a second hand set at a breakers but when i put them in the car starts and cut out with the immoblizer. Can the clocks be keycoded? If not i have been told a new set of clocks would be over £450.

I assume you mean the dashboard instruments?
If they operate the same way as my BMW then you should find a coding plug on the rear of the instrument cluster, this as the name suggests is coded to the car, if this is missing the the instruments won't display, and I imagine will inhibit the running of the vehicle.
BMW wanted in excess of £120 and the vin number of the car before they would supply another.
Hope this helps.

Chances are its the same as VW, if so you`ll need the SKC code and the appropriate diag tool with coding facility to code the cluster.

VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda are all known as the VAG series of cars.
You need to either take it to a dealer so they can use their VAG-COM software or find someone who has the 3rd party VCDS software (http://www.ross-tech.com/products.html) who can do it for you. Asking in one of Seat car forums would probably be your best bet.

Close but not quite. Dealers do not VCDS/VAG-Com (it's the same thing). VCDS can only code the cluster if you have the SKC (Secret Key Code) (as KingboyD said). VAG used to give these out with the car, it was on a little plastic key chain. They no longer given them out at all. If you still have the SKC and know someone with VCDS you are in luck.

The proper way of getting it coded is to take it to a main dealer, their diagnostic tool VAS5052 contacts Audi/VW/Seat's servers to get the SKC (the tech never sees it) and codes the dash. Some VAG specilaists also have VAS5052 and have the agreement with VAG to connect to their servers so it is worth giving them a call. If you are near Milton Keynes Inde Tech can do this, much cheaper than the main dealer.

The only other you have is to find an autolocksmith who has something like VAG Commander, this can be used to read the SKC from the ECU then code the car.
