Hi

There is already a double storey extension of around 3m on our detatched house, and I would like to extend further. Is it possible to get permission for say 5m, or is it only ever 4m and nothing further?

Thanks for any advise.

Maybe, can't really answer with such scant information. If its within keeping of the existing house, is within the local guidelines, no overlooking issues etc etc.

As FMT says, it depends on a number of factors. No harm in seeking pre-application advice prior to submitting a formal application as you would not be able to carry out the proposals under Permitted Development.

Thanks for the replies. Appreciate there is very little information, but just wanted to know if there is any point even asking, or if 4m was the limit regardless as most of the website seem to indicate.

From your answers, it looks like itmay be worth asking the question.

if 4m was the limit

Not at all. A 4m deep extension on a terrace property in a built-up area will be treated differently to the same extension on a detached property in a rural area. Applications are dealt with on a case by case basis and their individual merits.
