Hi can anyone tell me if there is a regulation concerning the minimum distance between an outdoor weatherproof socket and the incoming gas supply in a domestic premise. Many thanks.

There is no such regulation as far as I am aware. Though practical considerations and common sense would apply.

Thanks guys. Any idea where i can find that regulation?
I'm not sure it's actually a regulation. As far as I can make out. the closest one gets in the Wiring Regulations (BS7671:2008) is in sections 528.3.3 and 5.8.3.4 edit: 528.3.4, which are just general statements about proximity of electrical and other services.

The 25mm and 150mm figures come from the IEE's "On-Site Guide", a companion publication to the Wiring Regulations, but not part of those regulations. However, by being in the OSG it would certainly be regarded as 'good practice'

Kind Regards, John.

As John has stated above
BS7671:2088 edit BS7671:2008 (528.3)
Covers it and the OSG offers guidance on how this can be achieved.

Many thanks. Can i assume then that an outdoor weatherproof socket 200mm from an outside recessed gas cavity box is acceptable?

[..... now let me get this right.... BS6891:2005 (installation of low pressure gas pipework in domestic premises)
That's the one - Clause 8.16.2, no less :-)

...and I hadn't actually notice that in the OSG - so it's really the 'Gas Pipework Regulations', rather than the 'Wiring Regulations' which result in those 25mm and 150mm figures - which explains why they don't exist in BS7671.

Kind Regards, John.

That will be absolutely fine.

More importantly ensure that the socket is on an RCD protected circuit.

That sounds fine. The 150mm figure relates to the distance to the nearest gas pipe, which I presume will be more than achieved with what you describe.

Kind Regards, John.

I understand that the 22nd edition of the wiring regs, which are due to be published in 2088 are considering it's inclusion
Maybe - but do you think we'll have any gas left by then? Gas pipes may by then have been decomissioned and those that remain in situ allowed (by the 22nd ed.) to be used as earth electrodes :-)

Kind Regards, John.
