Which Paint for Exterior Windows

An inheritance is a wonderful thing.

If you don't know what you are doing - then you should not be masquerading as a pro.

If I want my car fixing, or my eyes testing - I don't want someone that has to go on an internet forum asking how to do it. Do you?

You are a chancer.
I am a member of quite a number of forums as my hobby is cars, I post regularly on the internet in other ways such as twitter. I can can say hand on heart, you are the biggest cock.nose ive come across.

Rusty chancer. Let's sort this out for you.

Oil based satins aren't suitable for external application because they only last a year or two. They stay wet rather than being waterproof.

Now be a good lad and use OIL BASED GLOSS.

Now thank me.

I knew this, but the woman wanted satin to match her new paintwork inside.

Then tell her you will do it but you will not guarantee it. If it fails in 18 months then she'll have learned a lesson. Crown Solo satin is great paint - but I'd warn her very well before I used it.

Or the alternative is to use the water based weathershield which says 6 year weathering protection?

Yes but I thought you didn't like water based stuff? And remember that those guarantees are worked out in lab conditions. Painted over old gloss I'd be amazed if you got anywhere near that longevity.

Don't rate crown, I've used their emulsion and it was crap.

I always use Dulux products or Gliddens. I dont really rate Crown and only use it at the customers request, I always stick with what I know works.

As for the Exterior stuff, ive not used anything other than 1 and 2 part WeatherShield products and Sadolin. Hence my post.

So if it was your job, you'd sell the Gloss to the customer on the basis it lasts longer and save all the headache.

Yes. Tell them it's just not feasible to use Satin. They won't thank you when it begins to peel after a long winter. I tried using Dulux Satinwood outside once - but it proved hopeless. (It was on my own place).

All the properties in that row are gloss, ill tell her that gloss is more waterproof and use the Trade WeatherShield Gloss ive used before.

If you'd have been as helpful at the beginning this thread wouldnt be 4 pages long.
