My boiler makes noise like as if a plane is taking off when hot water is turned on. This only happens when CH is on and temp is below 60degrees. the noise doesnt occur all the time, id say it happens 70% of the time. The boiler has been flushed with x200 on installation and then x100 was added.

Any tips, advice would be really appreciated.

If under warranty call Vaillant as you may need a new main heat exchanger, if not take out an insurance policy and wait a month then claim

Well, it could be a couple of things:
A small amount of crap in the main heat exchanger can cause all sorts of noises. (hope you had the sense to fit a filter with the boiler, powerflush or not!)
Or, it's usually something to do with the air/gas ratio (loud howling). In which case you need to get someone in who 'does' actually understand combustion, and how to use the analyser. (and there ain't many of them around).
I could tell you what can be done, but I'm not allowed to give out that sort of info on the forum. Only in the 'gas club thingy'. Sorry I can't be of more help..

I would say you need a service by someone who has CPA1 (combustion analysis ) qualifications these situations can be dangerous so j suggest you have it checked ASAP you may also require a new part for your combustion chamber but as stated above we can only offer limited advice in this forum a gas engineer will know how to sort this

Thanks for the reply, magnaclean fitted, waht can i do to eliminate possible crap in the main heat exchanger. Also do you guys know any engineers that can be recommended in the Midlands area to do the other checks. also what is the gas club thing, sorry new to the forum.

Any ideas guys

Midlands is a large area! You need to say where you are.

All engineers need to have CPA1 but that does not say they will be able to set up your boilerproperly.

Explain your problem if not calling for a warranty visit. What does the installer say?

Tony

thanks for the reply, i thought i would further explain, the noise only last around 5seconds and then its gone, this only happens when i open the hot water tap and the CH is on. when the heating is off the boiler doesnt make any noise when the hot water is called for.

Also it was suggested that there might be debry in the system, can some explain how i can eliminate this possibility.

Are you quite sure its not just the diverter valve moving?

I dont think its the diverter valve, iv stood next to a couple of boilers and they dont make any such noise when the hot water is called for. definately something else. Is it worth a fresh flush, if yes whats the best procedure.

The stepper motor used in Vaillant boilers for the diverter valve is not used on any other common boilers!

But your original description is typical of a combustion problem.

Is your "plumber" an experienced boiler engineer with a combustion analyser?

Hey, i appreciate all the emails. If its a combustion problem should it not happen every time the central heating is on and the hot water is called for.

The noise only occurs when the CH is on and it only last a short while.

Also any idea what i should pay a Qualified Engineer to do a combustion check. Also can you explain what this involves for reference. thanks

A little more info to report: we have had the heating on today and with the hot water open at the tap i went over to boiler and turned the temperature up for the water and the boiler starting making a vibrating noise.

I will try when the CH is off and report back.

Right, CH was off i opened the hot water ran over to the boiler and turned the temp up on the hot water and guess what the vibration noise came back.

Does this definately suggest that the boilers air/gas ratios are out?
