Hi,

A tale of woe and a plea for help :)

My basin waste started leaking between the chrome waste fitting and basin. No problem thought I, just pull it out, reseal and refit the waste. Couldn't get enough access with the pedestal in place so pulled that out the way. This is when the DIY demon appeared in a puff of smelly smoke and laughed heartily at me  Yep - which ever monkey fitted the thing didn't use any brakets or fixings just splurged a load of silcone on the back of the basin and stuck it in place.

So having rescued the basin from it's precarious predicament wobbling around on just its plastic waste pipe threatening suicide. I've cleaned it up and have a new waste installed.

Problem now is - how to rehang it? The wall is a stud partition and I have no idea where the studs or pipework runs in it. I'd need to be an octopus to bodge it back in the way it came out in any case and it's far from satisfactory.

I don't believe that there are any fixings available that would enable a piece of plasterboard to support the weight of a basin. So I'm a bit stumped how to proceed short of ripping the tiled plasterboard out to put noggins in. But of course there's no leftover tiles around to make good if I do that.

Any cunning plans gratefully received :)

Thanks :)

Before you moved it, did the silicon hold it firmly in place without the use of screws?

Yep it was OK before with just silicone - just seems a little unsafe should someone choose to lean on it heavily or whatever.

Those brackets look useful but with a Minimum Cavity Depth required of 140mm to install I don't think they'd fit. I'll drill a little pilot hole and see how deep the cavity is with a rod or something.

Thanks :)

If you are just going to have to use a silicone then get some Plumbers Gold, sticks sh#t to a shiny shovel :)

And you can use it on wet surfaces, even underwater. And you get a 10 year anti mould guarantee.
