imagine an inner city multy story (smallish - 3 storeys), which is shut due to poor construction. If the council were due to knock it down at some point or sell it...what is the viability as a punter of buying it, knocking it down, disposing of the waste, and preparing the ground as an open car park in the city centre charging £10 a day?

no not that building... or that city !!

but imagine 100 cars per day - £10 each... plus part day and new arrivals... lets say £1500 per day. Won't that pay the costs and make a profit?

As long as there are cars , car parks will always be a good venture, in the right place.

IIRC that Sheffield one is listed anyway, bloody eyesore!

If it was viable and cost effective NCP would be on it in a flash.

Have to admit in London we use waste ground car parks a lot for £15 a day. Generally they are not even licenced, jsu squatters in reality. But with parking charges at £4.00 or more an hour its worth it.

Where I live they knock down an old hotel opposite a rail station and turned it in to a car park for 100. At £2 a day its always full up. So, I would have thought it makes more than the Hotel without the problems.
You'll need metering and monitoring. Would have thought it's a good earner in the right place. Also, can be sold on for redevelopment in the future. Good luck to you.

Didn't a national bus company do much the same when the buses were privatised? Bought 2 bus companies in towns near to each other for about £2m closed one of them down and sold the land which was in the town centre for about £4m.
