Maybe it has, but that doesn't directly answer the question! Any idea what, if anything, the exposed metal is connected to under non-fault conditions (let alone fault ones)?

No - it's in the loft, replaced a long time ago by a Pink Triangle.

I always tell my OH not to spend too long in the sun.
Yeah - I always found it annoying though.
Mainly because it looked so dull, and having had a Transcriptors and a PT I wanted my record deck to make a visual statement, and I wanted the Linn to be not as good as it was.
Emotion - something that **** Russ Andrews exploits to this day, which is why I have mixed feelings towards his victims.
If you can swallow the cost of restoration, I believe that a blueprinted and updated Garrard 401 mated to a modern plinth can sound stupendous.
SME 3012 to go with it...
And stuff the de-facto Shure - go for a Koetsu Black.
