Why is it the gas industry thinks it can charge customers for misdiagnosis and changing the wrong parts?

Does the TV repairman say - "I've changed the PCB but it still doesn't work - that's £250 please?"

Or the car mechanic? "I've changed the ignition module but it still doesn't start - that's £250 please. Tow it away when you are ready."

Well?

It's not just the gas industry. There are cowboys in all walks of life. You shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush

And NO offence to any of you guys here.

Bit of a generalisation there Joe but i do agree with you slightly .
Personally i dont charge a penny if no fix no matter how long has been spent on it .Some jobs just defy all logic why they wont work.
But it does really pish me off when i fix something and customers says you where cheaper than the guy that didnt fix it.
Why do people pay stupid amounts for no fix

OK Joe son, tell us what happened to you? You got some chancer that's a friend of a friend from down the Pub to look at your shed of a boiler & he shafted you, eh??!! Don't go blaming the whole gas industry for your poor judgement son..............

Joe 90 - I don't look on this forum much but every time I do, you seem to be making pointless posts about F all.

You may be a decent bloke in the flesh but you don't half make yourself look like a sad old tart in here.

The 'Gas Industry' also includes commercial pipe fitters, National Grid workers, safety compliance operatives, testing houses, inspectors etc, etc...

What you're describing is the bit of the industry that repairs combi boilers.

There are specialists in this area too, that carry parts, offer first visit fixes and give guarantees. You could include maufacturer's engineers/agents and BG in this. However I suspect you wouldn't be prepared to pay their fees hence the type of engineer you describe continues to survive.

Bad practice / over charging occur in all types of industry , like for instance , I dunno property developers , paper over the cracks , splash a bit of emulsion around , than flog it to some poor unsuspecting customer , a Joe , than some places are worst than others , I dunno take Albania for instance !!

I think if punters are paying engineers not to fix their boilers, then a large part of the blame lies with customers.

Do the engineers hold a gun to their head?

And of course, garages never rip people off, do they.

C'mon now chaps it's Joe90, poor guy is clearly on medication.
