Hi All,

I usually use Harris Ultima roller sleeves for emulsion paint on smooth walls but am in the market for something else which may offer better formance.

Can anyone suggest a top quality 9 inch roller sleeve for emulsion on smooth walls.

I would also appreciate thoughts on a mini roller sleeve for the same paint and wall combo.

I would also appreciate thoughts on a decent quality plastic roller tray.

Many thanks

Paul

Purdy White Dove, Hamilton, Prodec, and the same brands for for scuttles and trays.

wooster pro-dooz and the microfibre minis are very good but often dont fit down the back of a radiator which is annoying, think its made by hamilton. Pro- dooz is the best sleeve i've ever used.

Microfibres. The Harris are good. Absolute pig to clean, because they soak up so much paint, which is probably why they are so good.

Screwfix do cheap microfibre, might be okay.

The mention of the word Harris within the trade can be defined as unsuitable and their use in order to achieve a pro finish in my opinion is not desired.

i agree with thedec. Harris is a brand which specializes in DIY products that are not of a trade standard!!!

Perhaps they have a poor reputation, but the finish achieved with the Harris microfibre sleeve was very good. Other Harris roller sleeves I used were rubbish. Not all Harris products are bad. And have you tried the Harris microfibre sleeves? Or are you making assumptions without first hand knowledge?

Correct, they are regarded within the trade at least as far as I am concerned as both a cheap alternative and once used throw away product.

The microfibre rollers are not use once, throw away. I have two that did three bedrooms, a hall way and the sitting room, and they are still good.

I do understand what you mean when you refer to DIY products in a disparaging manner. I tried many such items from B&Q et al, which turned out to be merde. Fortunately online forums are a help to find decent kit e.g. Gyproc Easifill (as opposed to ready mixed Polyfilla).

The finish you achieved in your eyes may appear to be good, yet perhaps not good enough for a pro finish.

It is very good, and as good as pro work I have seen, such as the flat I am renting which is not very old. There are no patches, it is very even, very nice looking. It certainly does not look DIY. By the way, a DIY person may do better than a pro, as they have more time, assuming they are willing to learn the techniques. And pros are not necessarily particularly good, as I discovered when I threw out two bathroom fitters who are not fit to call themselves professionals.

All very well and good, yet you have already described yourself as an ignoramous within the trade, and on your last visit with regard to this particular message board, were you or were you not told by the mods to watch the door on the way out.

I was not told by the mods to "watch the door on the way out." Either show me where that was said or stop making things up.

You are rude.

I bought a microfibre roller after a professional decorator on another forum recommended them, and others said they were good. I found it to be much better than the normal sleeves I tried.

Well i'm sorry to burst your bubble, yet the mods did tell you to watch the door on the way out, when you termed this forum as ****e, yet that post by the mods would have been deleted by now. So cast your mind back to the challenge of whom both yourself and another person challenged the advice of a far more knowledgable forum member, did that thread not have something to do with the use of chemical strippers such as then the original Nitromors as opposed to to the more eco friendly alternatives :?:

And no, I am not rude just accurate.

No you are arrogant and rude. And I am not aware of being told by the moderators to "watch the door on the way out". Very convenient that the post was supposedly deleted, and that I did not receive notification of its presence, as I normally do.

Actually another poster was repeatedly posting the same information (against forum rules) and was told by the moderators not to do so. And he repeatedly accused two people including myself of pushing a product for their own gain, despite having zero evidence. The other person provided evidence to the moderators to convince them that the accusation was false.

The problem with some posters on this forum is that they have contempt for non pros. They will rubbish their opinons, even when the pro has not tried the product in question. That other person you mentioned was not far more knowledgeable. He was very rude, and repeatedly failed to explain why he expressed his opinion, other than repeatedly saying the same thing, like an annoying child having a tantrum.

I tested numerous paint strippers when I wanted to remove paint from wood and plaster. I found Nitromors okay, but I found several so called green products better, although they took much longer to work. Do I have to apologise for simply saying what I found in side by side tests? And do I have to put up with personal abuse for reporting what I find in tests? I don't.

And since then I discovered that the company who makes Kling Strip have a range of strippers that are far better than the ones I tried, including Nitromors. I tested Kling Strip, and NB-610. The latter was very effective on wood.

No doubt someone will appear and accuse me of being employed by the makers of Kling Strip.

I have posted many times on another forum frequented by pros. Usually I ask advice, but sometimes I throw in my (limited) knowledge, such as finding that Dulux white gloss STILL yellows, even with the blue tin lid. Those people are incredibly helpful, and very friendly. I do not know why some (not most) people on this forum are so arrogant and rude.
