old cable after a job

Today I have been called a thief, for bagging up and taking home two carrier bags of striped out old 1.0mm t&e (PVC) and some rubber whilst Moving and replacing 5 lights and sockets total value of cable £2.50 (striped I might add) all has been now returned and now have a happy costumer,
But this all got me thinking what other sparks do with one t&e obviously if the costumer asks to keep it then I leave it but what is the norm [/code]

it does belong to them and is technically theft.
unless your quote for work specifically says removal and disposal of old / waste material then everything that you bring onto the jobsite that they have paid for is also theirs...
having said that you should ask them if they want to keep any of the old stuff and only take it away if they say no.. you have permission then..

I got pulled up last week by the EA and questioned about what happened to scrap cable after a job. Leave it with the customer was my answer

Dont be stupid. Use some common sense. Why would you need a waste carriers licence for 2 carrier bags of cable? Do you have one?

The jobsworth lot are on the lookout and they bring a handful of police to help them out.

A sparky mate of mine (yes i have some) got stopped in a roadside checkpoint and his van contents were checked over. He had a bag of left over cable and a few old sockets that he was going to drop in the skip at the next site he was going to.

It cost him (and a few others stopped by the Environmental Enforcement jobsworths) a £300 fine.

If stopped with a load of rubbish in the van, just tell them it's not waste.

Tell them that you're going to take it all home and re-use it in a modern art installation which you anticipate will win the Turner prize and be worth in excess of £100,000. It can't possibly be waste if it's worth that kind of money - and if it ain't waste then you don't need a waste carriers licence!

Let the busy-bodies try and prove otherwise!!!!

This is the sort of nonsense which shows just how far this country has gone toward the establishment just trying to criminalize everybody at every opportunity (although I don't doubt I'm going to be called a right-wing anti-government nutcase or similar for pointing that out).

As a matter of interest, what legislation do these environmental inspectors or whatever they're called quote which allows them to search a private vehicle without a warrant?

It appears that Section 5 of Control of Pollution (Amendment Act) 1989 "gives powers to Waste Regulation Authorities such as waste collection authorities, the police and other enforcement authorities to stop and search any vehicle believed to be used for the transportation of controlled waste without being registered".

Who says its the customers, you bought a switch or whatever on behalf of, the switch is & packaging is YOURS===You have the receipt, what you sold on was the fitting of a new switch.
So I would say packaging is yours, old switch is customers.

I assume that you are referring to my post, and the answer is yes I do leave all waste at my customers premises, if they want it removing there will be an appropriate charge
