hotpoint aquarius washer dryer won't spin properly WDL520

hi,

my aquarius has developed a problem that it won't spin properly

it start to spin and i here the pump start then stops almost straight away

keeps doing this over and over again

i've checked the pump/hoses for blockages and all seems ok

anyone any ideas?

how does the load balancing work? could that be it?

The electronics monitor the electrical load on the the motor if you say had one item in then as the motor lifts that item up to the top of the drum it uses more energy than when the item falls down the other side thus the electronics can determine the load if your machine is tumbling then trying to spin then its trying to get the water out of that item to make it lighter so it can then commence the full spin. A modern machine will never spin a single item a common complaint is when a user trys to spin bath mats . hope this explains your problem :)
 
no it's not that, doesn't matter how much i out in there

also now won't even tumble dry, does the same thing

starts to spin/drain and then within about 2 seconds cuts out

eventually when i left it it did the dreaded flashing lights thing

had a look at the board and caps ok and one of the newer versions

any ideas, seems a shame to land fill it...

You have a fault on the dryer thermistor , swap it over with the one on the wash heater.

1. why would this affect the spin only cycle
2. where are the dryer & washer thermistor?
( dryer one on top of the dryer condenser thingy? )

Cos it has a earth fault and it throws up alsorts of problems. Remove the lid and it's at the side of the heater box with 2 thin blue or black wires attached to it. Swap it with the one in the wash heater , found at the back of the drum in the middle of the heater with a 8 mm nut on it. Swap it around then you know to buy a new one cost about a tenner , it will get u going for now.

ok can't swap them as they are a different fitting, but tried disconnecting them...now really odd

with either or both disconnected then the spin does spin up to full speed

is it likely both are gone?

i measured the resistance of them both around about 20K which i think is about right

is this all pointing to the stupid control board?

it's a newer one after the orig having been replaced i was told

are hotpoint really putting a different type of junk board in?
 
No there not a dif fitting. They are the same , it's not a pcb fault it's the thermistor fault. You have to split the heater box to change them.

i don't understand...why does disconnecting the other thermistor on top of the heater box change things and separately doing the same in the washer unit also change the behaviour?

whereas the one in the washer heater is part of the heater element and doesn't seem to be removable do i have this wrong?

Have you tested the insulation of the dryer element possible earth leakage ? . As far as im aware the wash ntc and dryer ntc are not normally interchangeable however i do not repair that many hotpoints so i may stand corrected :confused:

no will check that, although is suspect the pcb power circuits as it would explain some of the odd behaviour i think

wish i had a circuit diagram and the laptop software to test/flash eeprom

annoying how hotpoint are now shipping with the eeproms soldered to the board to make things even harder for people to fix without their intervention

why isn't anyone challenging what is obviously a design fault on this class of machines as the pcb should not fail in this sort of lifetime
