In order to avoid hijacking any other thread...

We have to pay taxes for certain things "to work". Fair enough,

However, one would have hoped that in these times of financial austerity our political masters and civil servant employees would at least try to kerb obvious excessive expenditure.

Never have....never will.

The old boys network grinds on...We don't choose MPs or civil servants...THEY do.

Must admit, the election process is weighted heavily in favour of the person who'll win.
Labour for instance won't field a candidate in the Tory Heartlands, Same as the LIb Dem's won't field a candidate in a predominantly Labour constituency.
Quite honestly. all MP's are out to screw the system for all they can claim. Doesnt matter whether their Tory or Labour, or Lib Dem , or MRL party.

Considering that most take a massive pay cut to become MPs - your comment is a little childish.

And we can take that as confirmed because you've seen all their tax returns and financial accounts?

Thought not.

Most are barristers and lawyers. Many are already millionaires. Stop spouting the same old tired lines and actually THINK for yourself.

Who wouldn't vote for more money if they could get away with it. Change the system.

Couldn't agree more, they shouldn't be allowed to sit on any committee that deals with their own expenses.

About 86 out of 621 MPs are Barristers or Solicitors.

...The ballot was split down the middle, giving chairman Mark Healey the deciding vote. There were shouts of “shame” and “disgusting” from the public gallery as he voted in favour. [of the increase]...

...The basic allowance for the 25 elected members of the authority will rise from £2,000 to £2,500, while as chairman Mr Healey will receive £12,500...

So that is £15,000 summed increase, £500 each for the 26 members, with £2,500 for the guy with the deciding vote, the chairman.

Perhaps it is you who should start thinking. (he won't)

That would make a refreshing change.
