Please do enlighten us about the evils of nationalism ellal.

Don't forget to include places that have never really carried out wars of aggression but are very nationalistic, unless you prefer to just point to Germany and a certain moustached individual and claim that is the only type of nationalism.

Maybe you could point out those countries that are nationalistic who haven't 'carried out wars of aggression'...

I can't think of one, so maybe you can help me out...;)

I suppose you think the nordic countries are still going about in viking boats raping and pillaging?

And damn those pesky Canadians, always starting wars with ermmm?

Watch out! Napoleon has risen from the grave to lead France in a war against Europe.

Damn, Japan just bombed pearl harbour AGAIN!

And south korea is again attacking the north, or is it the north attacking the south, I dunno, which of them isn't nationalistic?

No no no, your right, it's simply nationalistic = war like and aggressive.

How stupid of me.

My great, great, great grandfather watched as his friends died in the Boer War.

While not disagreeing with everything in your post, I should point out that the Boer war was hardly Britains finest hour. When we couldn't beat the Boers in a fair fight, we rounded up civilians and starved them to death.

I think it is just another rather long ranting diatribe....no doubt there are points in it that we can all identify with but on the whole it is written to cause maximum controversy by it attacking nature, it is just another totally unreasonably example of lumping everyone of a certain creed or colour together as if for one moment in in 'real life' everyone is the same.
Does reading it make me 'proud to be British'....the answer is no.

Susie, i agree that there are a lot of points we can identify with, the reason i posted this was i thought it quite topical of a lot of the recent post, the individuals that have taken offense, would they also be spouting it off if i was a religious fanatic spreading hatred? or would that be ok with them?

I do wish people would use email stripper before posting forwarded emails with every ruddy line starting with a > > >
It is so simple to use and reduces the annoying > > >

Religious or not, YOU are perpetuating hatred based on the intolerance in that quote...

And it makes you no different from those you seem to be referring to, and whom I'm sure you'll name in good time when your point has been lost... ;)

Sounds to me like you are having a fanatical rant, so what actually makes you 'different' from those you appear to want to get rid of?... ;)

You of course have a right to an opinion, but don't expect those who don't tend to discriminate not to disagree with someone who does!

Oh, and while you're off on yet another 'english' superiority crusade, spare a thought for those around the world who we've being telling how they should run their lives for a long time now ....

And of course the millions we've killed in the process... ;)

Nothing wrong with being nationalistic/intolerant is there? Is it so different from being religious. These arguments about our rights to be nationalistic, intolerant etc will continue long after I've shuffled off this mortal coil. I'm very intolerant of badly behaved schoolkids on the bus in the morning. Am I so wrong when I say, their parents should have learnt the little so and so's some manners and perhaps some respect for their elders? If I'm fed up of illegal immigrants/asylum seekers taking this country (and my taxes) for a ride, am I wrong to stands up and be counted? I read the papers every day and read countless examples of the way this country is going downhill fast. I object to certain people holding rallies and carrying posters saying "Islam will dominate the West", "Jihad is coming soon", "Behead the non believers" etc (whilst the police stand idly by and seem powerless to stop them). If I were to walk down the street waving a placard with the words "Death to Islam, I'd be arrested. I also object to applying for construction jobs only to be told that the first pre-requisite is the ability to speak an Eastern European language.
What does all this make me?? Racist? Intolerant?
Nah I think it makes me rather human, the fact that I'm offended by the way this country has the p**s taken out of it.

Pred I don't think it's always people taking offence they have every right to disagree, to have a different opinion and to express it.
The problems for me are twofold ...I do feel it smacks of the old style white man supremacy....which was really quite disgusting, and also it yet again lumps everyone together...the matter of immigration is incredibly complex and you just can't generalize.
I have said it before but I won't apologize for not changing the record we should always remember that this forum is there for all to view and sometimes we should maybe take a little bit more care when expressing our opinions.
