Cutting 600mm porcelain tiles - where to cut/hire a cutter

Hi folks,

I'm tiling my kitchen floor with 600x600mm porcelain tiles. The electric cutter I have is too small for these tiles and need a bigger cutter. Does anyone know of anywhere that can cut them for me? Or where I'd be able to hire a suitable cutter?

I'm in the South Lancs area.

Sorry crumble, but you’re asking almost impossible questions & there is little or no chance of anyone who contributes here being able to answer that. I don't mean to be rude but have you actually looked around for yourself? If you want tiles cut by a 3rd party, your best bet is to phone your local trade tile outlet but you will need to list exactly the sizes you want & wait god knows how many days for them to come back; & they probably won’t guarantee no errors! You wont be able to allow for “site variations” either which is an impossible ask IMO. As for hire, same goes; how do we know what’s in your area? “Tucan” is local to me & “Jewson” hire out; they’ll do you a mini digger or even a full size JCB but weather or not they hire tile cutters, who knows.

You could always spend 100 quid & buy a suitable wet cutter; depending on how many tiles you have, 3rd party might well charge you close to that anyway

Some might suggest an angle grider with a diamond blade but if your not used to using one, you will get even worse results whan those who swear by them! They can also be very dangerious in unskilled hands.

Why are my questions impossible to answer? I think there's every chance that someone has needed to have tiles cut by a professional and they know of such a place. Of course, that may not be in Lancashire but on the other hand it may well be! I'm not expecting people to know what is in my area, or for anyone to go out there an look for me?? I think you have misunderstood my post entirely.

And yes, I have looked around myself - what on earth makes you think this was my first port of call?? Because I tell you it is not!

If I've made the huge mistake in thinking that the majority of people on here are from the UK then my bad. Sorry I asked!

Don't see what Richard said wrong there mate !as tilers we cut our tiles ourselfs so we have no need to hire, you don't need a wetcutter to cut porcalain but you do need a good quality dry cutter it might be a good investment if you are to do more tiling, ring round all your local hire shops even try tilers to price your job up might be cheaper than you think to get it laid by a pro.
