Hi everyone.

I have recently been converting our spare box room into a walk-in wardrobe, which includes a display cabinet for my girlfriend's shoes. I am considering adding lights to the display cabinet, but I'd like them to turn on and off with the main lightswitch alongside the normal light fitting.

I know nothing about electricity and will therefore be getting a qualified person to do it. Is it a fairly simple job, and how much should I expect it to cost?

We only rent our house and so will not bother with it if it's going to be too epensive. Also, is it something that can be undone in a few years when we move?

Thanks for reading.

She sounds high-maintenance.

Are you sure about this? :D

Do you mean you want them to go on and off with the main light, or you want the switch changed to a 2-gang one to control the main light and the display cabinet ones?

You need to get a few electricians to look at it.

Ease of access to the existing wiring, routing to the new position, whether the circuit is currently RCD protected, will all have a significant bearing on the cost.

Check that your landlord is happy. Also he might have a tame electrician he always uses.

Yes.
