The water supply to my house is 15mm from the street. Would it be worth upgrading to wider MDPE pipe? How would it improve things?

It would improve flow rate and pressure on your cold main.
What type of system do you have?

Hi there
I did this very thing last year, we had an old lead pipe and the flow was good but it was breaking in places.
We had the blue pipe put in by a company and they did it all with no digging up the garden as they used the underground dill method (cannot remember exact name).
You can also push them down by about 50% if your lucky.

It's supplying a combi. It's only a small house with one shower, no bath. Flow is good at the moment, but the current combi doesnt provide any decent hot water. It's either down to the fact it's supplied by a 15mm pipe after about 7 jcts to things like taps and washing facilities, or the boiler is rubbish.

is it a lead pipe? You can often get a subsidy from the water co, and they will change their bit of old lead to new plastic at the same time, which makes the jointing much easier.

I changed a half-inch lead to 20mm MDPE a couple of years ago. Flow improved enormously, and I think it was quieter too. My only regret is that I used the 20mm as I had it handy, I could have put 25mm or 32mm at no extra work and little extra cost.

If you've got a decent flow at your kitchen cold tap (you say you have), then the problem is the boiler or the internal pipework.
A small house with only a shower should be no problem for even a smallish combi.
