Help with neighbours noisy power shower pump?

Hi there,
Not sure if this is in the right section, but hoping someone might help.

My neighbours have a shower pump in their airing cupboard which backs onto our bedroom walls. The noise from it is low level and obviously isn't on for a long period of time but I was wondering if there is an inexpensive way to help alleviate the noise which I'm assuming is mostly vibrations.

I haven't approached them yet as they are new neighbours and lovely so don't want to rock the boat, however they seem to have got into a habit of showering at midnight which is obviously a bit of a pain! And not a 5 minute shower like most people, about 20 minutes for some reason!

The old neighbour reckons she had pipework done and things moved around to make it quieter and I know it is on a concrete slab, but is there anything more that could be done?

Any help would be appreciated!

Just to add I am already using earplugs if any smart alec's wanted to suggest that!!

Your wearing ear plugs and you can still hear the pump.

Ask to check to see if any of the pipe work is touching the wall and make sure the pump is sitting on rubber feet.

Thanks Andy, I think I'll see how the shower habits go on before mentioning it!

I would add that I have incredibly sensitive hearing!

The 'concrete slab' - a paving slab, perhaps? - will quite efficiently transmit the pump's low-frequency vibration into the floorboards. It will help to decouple the slab from the floor - a couple of layers of carpet or underlay would probably do the job.

It probably is a paving slab, its actually on a shelf in the airing cupboard, it isn't on the floor!

Ok, but the point remains - try getting them to put some carpet or underlay under the paving slab

Hope they haven't got a lawn or you'll be over the fence timing how long the lawn mowers on and how high the decibels are.

You might know the time of a loud droning vibration next to your head when you are 5 months pregant and its past midnight.

I'm not a bad neighbour and I do not 'time them' in the shower. And they don't have a lawn so no worries there but thanks for your concern.

Don't worry about the pump noise as in 4 months time you will have a screaming baby at home, just place the cot next to your neighbours wall.

The first 18 years are the worse.

Thanks, its our first so I'm not expecting to get much sleep in 4 months time so I'm sure I'll be oblivious to any sounds anyway!
