kitchen wall to extension

I have inherited a house with a kitchen extension.

The previous owner moved the kitchen into an extension, behind the old external wall. The wall has been reduced to about 4 foot high, and is now the wall between the kitchen and the dining room (this was the kitchen) The work surface on the kitchen side is a the regular height - so the wall extends over a foot higher than the kitchen work surface)

I want to bring both sides to the same level, which would mean reducing the height of the old external wall to the height of the kitchen work surfaces to create a plinth.

I know I will have to get new work surface when it is completed, but who do i go to to have the wall reduced in height? Is it a DiY job?

Look under 'Wall Height Reducers' in Yellow Pages. There should be plenty there.

Thanks for that
Can't find that category tho'
Would that be under builders, kitchen installers, handymen...?

Its just before the section which tells you where to go and get a "long weight"

Try 'Builders', but you might have difficulty getting someone out if its a small dmolition/plastering job.

(Simon- you are soooo mean!)

If you persevere you will get some very good advice on here. But expect the same leg pulling you would get as an apprentice on site.
When I first did some holiday work on a site driving timber to 2nd fit houses, the gaffer spouted out a huge list of timber sizes and quantities and I thought I was supposed to remember them all - so I have no idea what to take to site. I should have asked to a pen and paper but I was too scared !
