How to top my heating system Vaillant VCW GB

Hello,

So i have moved into this rented apartment that has an old heating system for both water and radiators. There is no problem with the water heating but i noticed a problem at the pressure gauge. At first it was 0.4 and after bleeding my radiators went straight to 0 so i stopped using it. Any ideas how to refill the system with water? I am not sure about the exact model of the boiler but it looks old and similar to some pictures i found on the internet for VCW GB 240.

You should've left it alone

ALWAYS get the landlord to sort out radiators etc. The chances are the boilers expansion vessel will be flat and bleeding a little air from the radiators will result in the pressure going off the scale causing more problems.

There will be be a filling loop somewhere in the property...perhaps under the boiler in a cupboard. Top it to 1 Bar maximum and check the pressure doesn't rise more than 2 Bar when the heating is up to temperature.

You will have an external filling loop usually under the boiler but not always, follow the pipe that lets the cold water into the boiler and you should find it, if the hose is attached open the valve until the boiler guage reads 1 Bar then close it again and the boiler should start working, you also need to contact your landlord and tell him that the PRV (pressure releif valve ) from the boiler has never been piped to outside its just an open end below the boiler, try looking up topping up pressure in the FAQ section of this site for more information

Thank you for your answers. The landlord eventually came and refilled the system with water. The external filling loop was at reasonable distance from the boiler (somewhere near the kitchen radiator on the other end of the room) so i would probably never thought this was its purpose. He just came with a long hose and linked it to the sink faucet.
What about the pressure relief valve? Is it a problem that is not piped? I mean if i need to use it, can't i just put a bucket underneath or something?

YOU dont use the PRV its an automatic safety device that operates if there is an internal failure in the boiler and you could have water above 3 Bar in pressure at extrememly high temperatures being released from the boiler into the room it is located , that is why it has to be properly piped and termitaed so that if it did discharge it wouldnt cause any damage or injury, that aside if your landlord is filling the system with a hose from a tap then he probably wont care
