Rushing sound from radiator valve

One of the radiators in my flat makes a sound like water rushing through the valve where you adjust the temperature. This only happens on one of the 6 radiators in the flat.

Does this sound like a simple case of bleeding the one radiator?

The system is relatively new, 14 months old, but the problem has only become noticeable in the past few months.

Just tried it, didnt make any difference, unless I was turning the wrong bit. When I took the plastic cap off, there was square thing sticking up and a hexagonal nut below it. Tried turning both with no success. On the small pipe between the radiator and the cap is another small square shaped valve. Is that what you mean?

Hmm, it's prob the other way round.

The lock shield needs opening a little.

The more closed the valve, the more likely it is to make a noise.

Bit confused now. I have these 2 types of valve

The side with the white dial and the temperature numbers is the one making the noise. I tried adjusting the other side.

Which bits do I need to adjust on the temperature setting side?

Are there any arrows on the side of the chrome body of the thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) - that's the adjustable one showing a '3'?

If only one arrow, check which rad pipe warms up first.

If the TRV is on the pipe which warms first, the arrow should point towards the radiator. If the TRV is on the other pipe, the arrow should point away from the rad.

If there are two arrows on the TRV, it doesn't matter which end the TRV goes or which way the arrows are pointing.

Also, which boiler do you have (make and model)?

There doesnt appear to be any arrows on either of the two chrome areas, but the end with the 3 warms up first.

The boiler is a Potterton Promax Combi HE Plus

The thing with the 3 on it is a TRV, a thermostatic radiator valve.

Does the noise change, or go if this is adjusted? I.e turned off, or turn to maximum.

I normally have the TRV set to 5, maximum, and the noise is audible. When I reduce to around 3/4 the noise increases, while going under 3 seems to turn the unit off since the noise disappears. Although when the unit comes back on the noise returns.

Only a guess but I'd replace the trv.

How much did you turn it? Fully closed then open half a turn?

If it is the highest rad in your system ? then it could be air,, it could also do with balancing properly.
