Hi

Apologies if I've posted this on the wrong board. It's not really DIY either as I'd like to know (very, very roughly) how much I should be paying for a bath to be removed and a shower unit installed.

Thanks for reading.

So many variables!

Perhaps about £200-£2000.

Cheap job or to a posh hotel standard.

A stand alone shower enclosure is about £1000 upwards!

Many thanks for replying Tony. I s'pose a cheap job

I've just had a thought. This conversion is honestly for my elderly Mum and Dad. Maybe there's help with funding? I'll do some research. Thanks again.

yes there is funding available , contact your local advice shop or social work department they will be able to advice you where to look

Don`t get suckered in by the companies "specialising" in showers for the aged/disabled

Consider a wetroom with altro flooring and a simple shower curtain. The advantages will include no trip hazard, non slip floor, able to use mobility shower chair which can be wheeled in.

Council grants may be available, especially if either of your parents become registered as disabled since the powers-that-be tend to prefer looking after people in their own homes. May not be relevant now, but time and age will get us all

Someone I know had a replacement hip and it was not as successful as he had hoped. He can walk distances but cannot get up from the floor or get into the bath at all easily.

So he had one of these Saga recommended firms install a walk in bath.

The installer came from outside london and booked into a hotel. As he was carrying the old ( cast iron ? ) bath out he hurt his back and had to be taken to hospital.

Having no bath and the water all turned off, my friend moved into the installer's hotel !

Eventually the firm sent another installer who completed fitting the new bath. My friend was staying in the hotel for about a week at the firm's expense!
