Part of a job ive been asked to quote involves changing a light fitting in a bathroom. Supplementary bonding is all in place and main bonding to water and gas. There is no RCD protection on lighting.
Would you quote for fitting an rcbo? i dont want to put it on as an 'optional extra' .

If it was me i would just change the fitting fill out the minor works and make a note of lack of RCD protection.

Its like the job i did the other week adding an extra socket outlet for an little old lady, there was no RCD installed an old dorman smith unit with BS3871 MCBs and the main bonding was undersized.
The wiring to the new socket was surface run in trunking at it was in a cupboard to supply a freezer so no chance of it being used for equipment outside.
Yes i know under the 17th that all socket outlets for use by unskilled persons rated under 20 amp require RCD protection, but i used my judgement to the risk and i made a note of the lack of RCD protection on the minor works certificate and recommended that it be rectified.

Not for existing installations where only replacements are being undertaken with no new concealed wiring..

Has everyone been reading too many 'guides'?

Well i was adding an extra socket spured of an existing.

Ive lost a few jobs by saying that i need to install RCD protection and the best way forward being a new consumer unit and all if any required upgrades to the installation.
Most of the time the customer hasnt got the funds to have the work done immedialty so i assess the risk of me doing and additon or alteration, many times they have us back a few months down the line to carry out the required remedial works.

Then an RCD FCU at the point of spurring off the existing wiring would have made the new wiring compliant, if you insist on both the socket and wiring being RCD'd. Or use an RCD socket if you just need the socket protected.

As it's a replacement light fitting, there is no requirement to protect this by an RCBO. Of course you can advice the customer of the benefits of this additional protection, with regards to the location, but no requirement on a straight forward replacement.
Just make a comment on the MEIWC.
