You are fiddling with things you are ill equipped to be fiddling with.

the broken blade won't be causing your problems, but you need a qualified engineer to be looking at the boiler.

I'm not getting into a dispute about whose equipped to be doing what here.

The engineer said it wanted replacing; I don't have a spare 2K lying around hence exploring other avenues.

Would the W/B fixed price repair be worth a try?

fair does! for your info WB dont cover the flue in any way shape or form, but will sort the boiler

Looking at the flue I cannot see why the engineer suggested it was shot, I cannot see any rotten bits, holes etc. There is a large clip on a seal which looks like it should have a nut/bolt on it (possibly what damaged the fan blade) and a further double clip lower down which looks rusted. I'm guessing they would replace these?

Well he was right, the flue elbow has a hole like a coin slot in it.

I think I'm stuck with two options now.

1. Help Link, or
2. Get someone in to cap off the gas so I can remove the old combi. Stick new combi + bits on credit card and pay for install.
