Hi! I hope I am posting this in the right place - if not, moderator please redirect.

I am looking for a wall cabinet, 500mm or 600mm wide, that matches the style and finish of Bathstore's "Euro Trio White" range. Any suggestions?

Here's why (the TL:DR version): I bought a pile of stuff from Bathstore, but the cabinet was broken on delivery. They are refusing to replace as it was reported 14 days after. They say I must buy a new one. I am £$%^&*ed if I am going to pay them another £279 but I need something that matches the rest of the bathroom. Details at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?p=60344599&posted=1#post60344599

Meanwhile, any ideas?

You are going to have to grit your teeth and buy another one. Easiest way to get your money back is if you paid by credit card then get your money back for the faulty one via them. The credit card company will get the money back from Bathstore. Bathstore should come and collect the faulty cabinet. If you didn't pay by credit card then you have to decide if getting it back via another method is worth your while.

I've heard different stories from the Bathstore delivery men...

When I had my bath delivered, they told me the story of how they had to go back to a house to exchange a bath (that had been installed) that had had a hammer dropped in it!

And they did all of that (minus installation fees) F.O.C!

If it was genuinely broken on delivery and not afterwards, I'd have another go.

EDIT:

Just had a look at the other forum where you posted. Did you get a reply from your letter?

Did you chase this up?

"Bathstore offers a no quibble replacement policy for items incorrectly supplied or damaged in transit during our delivery."

Many thanks to each of you.

I think the Sale of Goods Act issues have been very well covered by the immensely helpful folk over at Money Saving Expert and another helpful chap working for Trading Standards at the Citizens' Advice Bureau. I now know what to do, and have sent off a letter to the Managing Director of Bathstore. I'm hoping that will get us somewhere, but the missus is asking me how I propose to sort out her bathroom if Bathstore refuse.

I have heard that some products like this are made in the Far East and sold under a variety of different names. The Euro Trio style is quite distinctive, so I was hoping someone might have seen them under another name at a different seller. That's the real point of my enquiry here.

To pick up the other good points made:

chapeau: Someone at MoneySavingExpert also suggested getting the credit card company involved. I will look into that - thanks!

securespark: I am as sure as anyone could reasonably be that the item was delivered broken. Bathstore's carrier placed it in my front room along with all the other stuff I ordered, and I did not touch it. The plumber carried it a few feet whilst I was in the next room before opening the box to fit it. He has been very careful doing all this work. I didn't hear him drop it or anything like that, but as soon as he opened one end, he saw it was damaged and called me.

Bathstore's "no quibble replacement policy" only applies if you tell them within 7 days. At least that's what the three different Bathstore people I spoke to all said rather emphatically. We didn't find the problem until day 13 or 14. It strikes me that 7 days to notify delivery problems is a bit of a swizz as they also say to allow 7 days between expected delivery and start date for installation.

big-all: Good points, thank you. Chasing up the Sale of Goods angle already. The Distance Selling Regulations aren't relevant in this case. Even though I ordered over the internet, more than 7 days have passed, and I am not wanting to cancel the transaction, I want a replacement. (By the way, I think it's 7 days to notify under DSRs, not 14 to return - I've been learning more than I ever wanted to know about consumer rights in the last few days!)

Thanks again, all. Please do let me know if you come across a white bathroom cabinet made of marine ply with curved corners.

It's the mirror cabinet that's broken. We bought various pieces in this range.

Interesting, they now have the price at £199. That's less than I paid for the first one even with the discount for buying £2000 worth of stuff. I am no more willing to give them £199 for a replacement than I was £279!

Thanks again, securespark.

Oooh! I checked ebay but didn't look for completed sales. I'll keep my eye on that seller.

Good one, thanks!

chapeau - I can see you understand why I am looking for other options. Have you been there yourself?
