Dealing with Hard Water

Hello

I live in an apartment and the water is very hard and its a nightmare to clean things. I have been trying to look at solutions. Do these eddy water things work the ones that you wrap the wires around the incoming cold mains. It would be difficult for me to put a traditional water softener in as I believe the drinking water should not be softened and my filter at the kitchen sink should not have softened water passing through it.

Any ideas?

Quite simple to fit a softener under the sink you would have a separate tap for softened water independent of the cold water supply.

I believe the drinking water should not be softened and my filter at the kitchen sink should not have softened water passing through it.

I expect you are thinking of the advice to people on low-sodium diets, such as FF babies and people with kidney failure.

The softeners put a tiny amount of sodium bicarbonate (as used in indigestion remedies and baking powder) into the water.

If you drink two litres of softened water per day, in a month you will ingest as much additional sodium as is contained in one teaspoonful of salt.

There is far more sodium in bread, cornflakes and tomato ketchup.

What exactly is difficult to clean,? detergents contain water softener or they would not clean.

Quite simple to fit a softener under the sink you would have a separate tap for softened water independent of the cold water supply.

Think that would be the other way round - the seperate tap would give you non-softened water for drinking, and everything else is softened.

It wouldn`t be difficult - but it would be expensive - £400 for a unit plus plumbing . Of course I got a N.O.S one for half that and I plumbed it myself But they never seem to be the thing that people will buy in great numbers
