Hi,
I have recently had occasion to switch off the mains water into the house. As the water pressure in my area is quite high at all times of the day and not wishing to damage any equipment, through too low or too high a pressure I have bought a pressure meter which is commonly available (£10) but need to know the optimum pressure for my house (small two bedroom, no children etc.) so I can reset the stop cock.
Thank you
Barry

The pressure gauge will only show pressure.
The stop valve only switches the water on and off.
It can't control how much pressure there is.

You need a pressure reducing valve.
These usually reduce the pressure to 2.5 bar.

Five short lines and I now fully understand.
Thank you

These usually reduce the pressure to 2.5 bar.
Common, all-garden PRVs will take inlet pressure well above mains pressure and allow the outlet pressure to be set at between 1 and 6 bar. Normally factory-set at 3 bar.
