Amazing changes

You can see exactly the same sort of development at Salford quays Manchester.

Wotan

It's a remarkable difference, but also remarkably the same :) I can hardly believe that you could get two images that alike over that period of time. You would need to use the same mounting point, which would be possible if there was a triangulation point or something there, but also you'd need the same camera, or at least format of camera, and the same lens. The building in the foreground with the clock has exactly the same outline. There are differences, the time on the "later" shot is actually 30 seconds or so later. But there are also windows open and other differences. The new background buildings almost look as if they're 3d renderings. Not doubting that the buildings are "there" at all.

It's real alright and everything you see there has been built within the last 26 years . But even that is slow compared to what's happening in other parts of China.
For wotan, the tallest buildings in salford quays would probably be about the height of that white rectangular building at the front centre.
The tallest building there which isn't finished yet is the Shanghai tower and will be 632 metres tall when it's topped out, the second tallest in the world until some of the other buildings in China are completed.
The scale of the building projects all over the country there are awesome, nothing has ever been done anywhere that compares in terms of size and speed.

The "new" picture is rather badly photoshopped. The angle and perspective of the buildings is wrong and they are too visible; nowadays they'd be disappearing in smog.

What's that thing on the far left on the horizon? Have they built a new mountain?

Been looking at this, and at other shots of those new buildings on the net. The buildings are amazing, so much so that they almost do look rendered in nearly all the shots I've seen. The guy who took the second shot must have gone to a great deal of trouble to get it "right" is all I can say. No doubt in my mind now that it's "as shot". It's very good.
