According to Arista Insurance if I am insured as a Carpenter Joiner, I am not covered to fit kitchens as it is a different trade so requires insurance in its own right, sounds like a load carp to me and another way of ripping us off! Anyone else come across this?

Sounds a little unfair to me, don't really see what aspects of kitchen fitting would be considered more of a liability than most other carpentry/joinery tasks.
I know that I had to hunt around for a competitively priced policy for the cover I required, just because I use a little heat in my work. I understand the hazards of using heat, but when you look at the differences in some of the quotes it is quite alarming!

Have you considered insuring yourself as a handyman?

http://www.simplybusiness.co.uk/insurance/handyman/[/QUOTE]You still need to declare whether you are using dangerous tools etc like heat for plumbing etc, or there is no point.

You might as well insure yourself as a professional bed tester.

I agree with CC though, insurance companies are a bunch of squirmy, slimy bar stewards.

Fictitious claimants don't help either.

But you have to declare everything you do, but you get your insurance on one cheaper policy.

I have insurance with them and prior to that I had two separate expensive policies.

Dangerous tools!! All my tools are dangerous. Anyway Noseall your spot on it is to do with heat. Going back to another posting of mine regarding Magnet and their Trust Mark Fitter scheme whereby they need me to have heat on my liability insurance to get on this scheme, although I dont intend to use a blow torch ever, i might use an iron though "fat chance" i dont know where the wife keeps it.

Anyway, it transpires i am not insured to fit kitchens with or without heat, so i will have pay £30 more for my annual premium "so be it" and £40 for a mid term adjustment, this i resent, conning fookers.

Will look into the Handy man thing at renewal, cheers all for your inputs.
