Hi guys

Looking to put an alarm on my house. I am looking at the following two:

Yale wirefree Premium Alarm Kit HSA6400

or

Yale Security - Easy Fit Telecommunication Alarm Kit

I was originally going to get the HSA6400 but have just seen the newer Easy Fit Telecommunication system.

From what I can tell there isn't much difference between the two. Apart from the control panel on the newer model being touch screen?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you are considering wireless then read the small print.

Consider that wireless systems can be disabled by blocking ( jamming ) the radio channel and thus rendering them useless.

Thanks for the reply.

Is this the case with all wireless alarms? As I was looking at ADT monitored alarms and they also appear to be wireless.

Thanks.

Anything that relies on wireless for communication can be blocked ( or jammed ). Some simple, low cost systems, have no effective means to continue operating during blocking. Some systems have means to reduce the effect of blocking but these tend to be the more expensive systems.

The most common means of coping with blocking is to sound the alarm when the system detects that it is being blocked. One manufacturer did ( and may still ) recommend turning off this feature if the alarm gave too many "false" alarms. ( that is the same as turning off the tamper function ).

All DIY systems use one of the few licence exempt radio frequencies. These frequencies can also be used by many other types of legal to use wireless equipment and intereference from such legal equipment has to be accepted as a condition of using the frequency. There is also illegal equipment using those frequencies, this equipment does not comply with the regulations controlling the transmitter power and duration of their transmissions.

From reading the top amazon review for the HSA6400 it says:

"Some wireless alarms can be jammed by the sort of phone jammer you can get on Ebay. This isn't one of them and an attempt to jam the alarm when armed will cause the siren to go off."

Does anyone know how accurate that statement is?

Thanks.

There are pros and cons to all systems but get the best you can afford. If you are on a limited budget the Yale will do the job.

It can be jammed and when it is the siren should sound. Unless the owner knows there is jamming it appears to be a false alarm.

be aware, if you are looking for a low-cost, DIY system that you can install yourself in a couple of hours, there are people who will try to scare you with unquantified allegations.

See if you can get Bernard to tell you how many such alarms in ordinary domestic houses, in ordinary residential streets, he estimates have failed to operature during a burglary due to RF interference (he won't because there is no evidence to support his tale)

He does like to trot out his vague smears whenever he sees the word "Yale" on this forum. He is always very offended when I point it out.

I did not use the word Yale.

The comments I made apply to ALL systems using one way communications on a licence exempt frequency.

beware, that is ex-VAT

still a fairly typical low price though.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!
said the salesman as another easily mislead customer left the shop.

Applicable to all sales of DIY alarm systems reliant on one way wireless communication on licence exempt radio frequencies. Yale is only one of them.
