Hi,

I have had problems with my water pressure for a while everytime my neighbours would turn on their cold water taps my pipes would making a banging noise, I've looked into this on the internet and it's what people call a "hammer" problem. I have now turned my stop tap down to a lower pressure & I can't hear the pipes banging anymore but I'm wondering if it is now to low will this cause further problems with my washer, shower and central heating system.

Thanks

As long as the pressure you have now you've turned it down is fine for you then shouldn't be an issue. Turning you stop tap down hasn't actually reduced the pressure though it will reduce the shock wave entering your system that's causing your hammer problem.
The best way would be to find out where the hammer occurs, usually loose pipework somewhere and rectify that.

Hi Madrab,

Thanks for your comment, just another quick question, because I've turned the water down at the stop tap won't that create alot more pressure build up behind it as the water is obviously coming into the house alot slower so could it cause the stop tap to eventually start springing a leak.
Thanks
