Dear Forum members,

Does the "MAX" setting on a Drayton TRV4 TRV mean infinity (i.e. equivalent to there being no TRV) or does it correspond to a relatively high but specific temperature at which it will turn off the radiator?

I searched the Internet and the DIYnot forums for a definitive answer but could not find any. The manufacturer's documentation, online or on paper, does not answer this question.

I tried to ascertain practically whether it switches off the radiator by closing the room, opening up the lockshield valve completely and turning the boiler central heating temperature setting to the max but the radiator was still "on" at 24-25 C. I could not get the temperature any higher because of the prevailing cold weather.

Thank you.

Max is an actual temperature.

According to Drayton's literature, 1 is approx 10C and Max approx 30C.

MAX means the lounge gets to about 30C as Mrs RR sits shivering and moaning about drafts with the woodburner blasting out heat like a small nuclear reactor. She gets up to check the 6' long double rad and discovers it's not red hot so goes out to the hall and turns the room stat up to 23 then gets on the phone to me and complains that the radiator isn't working.

That's what MAX means.

Everybody, thanks for the answers.

I apologise for taking up your time for something that I could have and should have found myself. I did download that specific PDF but for some reason the min max settings simply did not register with me.

Have a good day!

@RigidRaider - Just out of curiosity why would your missus be cold (even with drafts) at 30 C? I feel like I am missing something quite obvious.

As I said - universal constants.

We have UFH. The room hits its target of 22 and the missus bleats that the floor isn't roasting. Fook knows if she expects to be hopping around like a cat on a hot tin roof, btu there you go.

Women! :?:
