Alternative to iPad, Advice on tablet for 7 year old

My 7 year old daughter used to use my iPad3 before she moved out with her mother so now I'm looking at a cheaper alternative as a Xmas present ,I've looked at nexus 7 ,kindle fire hd and galaxy tab 3 ,I think she would like it to have a camera as she used to play with it on my iPad ,Any advise on which one is the better choice it will be used mostly for apps and camera and watching cartoons ,thanks

My nephews (twin boys) were recently given tablets from Tesco. I was quite pleasantly surprised how well they performed for just the kind of things you describe. Given that technology progresses so quickly (as do the kids) and the greater risk of carelessness these seem quite a good option.

Best idea is to find out which tablets your daughter's (new) school is using. It would be very confusing for a 7 or 8 year old to have one operating system (e.g. iPad) at school and an Android at home. I know iPads (and Windows tablets) are considerably more expensive than Androids, but it's worth paying the extra if needs be. One of my grandsons is a similar age to the OP's daughter, and his school uses iPads, so I bought him the iPad mini rather than risk confusion with a different OS.

Whatever you get make sure it has parental controls and don't allow unsupervised use!

Kids are smarter than you are giving them credit for.
And Android is Linux, which is in your TV, Tevo, Router, printer, Washing machine, microwave, Car, Sat-Nav etc.

I agree, CylonRaider that kids are smart. However, I did want help avoid a young man comparing ease of use of and Apple product with that of Android (or vice versa) in monosyllables which could be described as unsuitable for scholastic use!

Tablets and computers are used in addition to the "old" teaching methods.

My grandson is well able to read and write in both English and Cymraeg, as are (most of) his classmates!

So how do you use a tablet if you can't read?
