Hi all,
I've had my chimney removed including the roof stack, the roof area has been retiled and finished. The problem is what to do with the hole where the chimney was!!
I'm rapidly running out of money and want to save what money I have left for plastering.
I was thinking of upstairs (pic 1) would be quite easy just to block up as its nice and square, but downstairs (pic 2 and 3) I'm not sure!
Any suggestions would be awesome

Thanks gang

The hole is the flue - are you dealing with the one single flue only? No other flues coming into this flue line?

Say more about the wall -how thick is it, whats on the outside (does the chimney breast actually project on the outside elevation at any point?

Whatever, the carbon deposits will have to be wire brushed and chipped off. Check outside, and if any carbon deposits can be seen coming through, then those bricks will have to be replaced.

Do you want to brick up the flue with solid infill brickwork?
Has any length of the chimney breast been propped/supported by brackets or lintels?

There's the question of what you want to do about the hearth(s)?

The skirting and dado and picture rail will also have to be made good.
