Hi can anyone suggest a method and product to repair a crack in ceilings, Ive just recently decorated a room with a crack on the ceiling that runs along the joint of the plaster board, its the length of the room. The customer has explained there was some minor subsidance which was quickly rectified, I raked out the crack to approx 3mm in width and filled it several times with gyproc easy fill ensuring there was plenty filler pressed into the crack however after one day after decorating there is the presence of a hairline crack. Ive thought about putting a fibre glass scrim on top of the crack to add strength but that would leave the appearance of a lump on the surface of a flat ceiling or alternatively i thought about channeling the plaster along the length of the crack then insert the scrim to conceal it but this would be very labourious and time consuming. Is there a better, quicker and more effective way and if there is i would be very grateful for any advice, thank you.

Toupret do a filler called elafib thats flexible. It is a biatch to rub down though so fill it as cleanly as possible.
Some ceilings are just prone to cracking though and it will just keep coming back.

Thanks for the advice Dcdec i will certainly give that a try, it sounds as though a new ceiling would be the perfect remedy although a tad drastic for the sake of a crack thanks again

I've used this a few times and it is practically invisible if the ceiling is high. On lower ceilings I've feathered the edges with a fine surface filler to make blend in seamlessly but its not easy to do. It's pretty sticky too, so get it in place first time if you try it. ;)

EDIT:
I should mention that I painted it before using the filler to feather the edges.

Misterhelpful thanks for your suggestion it sounds a good idea its certainly worth a try. These types of cracks are very problematic and prove frustrating and embarresing when you ve endeavoured to produce a first class finish and as soon as your back is turned the crack re appears. I ve even toyed with the idea of using 2 pac woodfiller or gripfill first then face fill it with gyproc any way thanks again for all the advice really appreciated.

Boards should generally be staggered when boarding a ceiling, so this isn't helping.
I'd suggest some drywall screws into the boards either side of the crack, into the joists and fill in the heads before going for the crack repair. May help shore it up.
If the long crack is there, it's not indicative of good boarding and they may have used clout nails to fix to joists or been tight with the number of screws used.

Ive used a caulk in the past as it stays flexible, can be difficult sometimes to wipe away all the excess but with a bit more moisture it normally does the trick.

Wickes lightweight filler is the best I've ever used. Feels like an empty bucket, set's like white cork. (Polymer technology)
