I know this is a really novice question but strangely could not actually find an answer.

Purchasing wood for a fence and a lot of the sites list things a 2EX. Example, 2.4m 2Ex 125 x 22mm featheredge board.

I know the 2Ex means 2 pieces extracted but does that mean the price is for 2 boards, or is it purely for information purposes?

Cheers,
James

got me stumped, normally 'x' means planned timber as in x 4x2 will finish something like 3 3/4 by 1 3/4.

The term 'ex stock' is often seen. Which often confuses. It means existing stock (as in, they always have it in stock) instead of 'ex' as in 'ex-wife'.

ex stock can also mean made from stock timber off that size so the finished size will be smaller after machining hence 2x1"planed will be around 44x 22mm or 3.4mm smaller and 6.8 mm smaller in width because off planing

2Ex means two pieces cut from one piece of timber.Just indicates the dimensions of the finished board.Boards are priced individually or in multiple i.e 10, 100 etc.

Thanks everyone.
Foxhole, i thought that was the case but didn't want to end up ordering double the amount by mistake especially with the Cant Rails as they are not cheap.

Just my tuppence worth here but I have been shopping around for a lot of fencing stuff recently and found that the larger wood yards can often be more expensive (sometimes very much more) than some of the smaller garden fencing companies.

Same gear - same method of treatment etc.

Just my experience so may be worth seeing if you have some similar smaller suppliers where you are.

I did think that but have really struggled. I live in West Bromwich, West Midlands if anyone has suggestions?
I have searched a lot of places, including local yards but no one seems to be able to beat this place I have found grangewood fencing supplies who will deliver for £22.50.
2.4m 125x22 feather edge boards are £1.25, all the local places were close to £2.00
I was after 2.4m 125x47 cant rails, most places charging over £4, this place is charging £3.95 for 3.0m lengths.
With post mix my order will be over £500 so if anyone can save me a few pennies then I'm happy to look at other places.
