Torbeck valves

Are these considered unreliable?
I have a customer with these on a saniflo and it is 5 years old
The valve whistles after filling up
Un less the float cup is raised with your finger
It also causes a bit of water hammer next door on the small bore plastic pipework to the fridge /freezer ,for the ice maker

They don't seem to be of the quality that they once were.

Nip into PC Cannock or Screwfix and get a Fluidmaster, they seem well made
