Hi everyone, im a newbe and hoping to get to get some advice or pointers in right direction please if you can. I have a backboiler and tank cylinder. Last week my hot water was just tepid warm, I called out gas man who checked things, he said the header tank in loft was really low as the ball joint had stuck. He released this and said things should be fine. The water did improve in temperature slightly but still not hot enough for bath. I called him back he then said because of the low water level in the header tank air is now in the main tank to which he fitted a air release valve. This was Friday. Friday night I was able to get a good hot bath, all seemed to be working fine. But now the temperature has dropped again, its still hot enough to wash up but not for a bath. After looking under fire when hot water fires up, the flames don't seem as high, ive now put central heating on and that seems fine and I can hear the back boiler firing up. but cant hear it when its just hot water, any advice anyone ..thanks

It sound like a typical gravity hot water and pumped heating system using a back boiler.
This air release valve that he fitted? I assume he fitted it next to the hot water cylinder?
It could be an air locked coil on the cylinder again.
Could you post a picture of this valve that the plumber??? fitted?

Thankyou for reply yes its at the side of main tank cylinder.. im not sure how to upload pics to show you. he did mention the what you have suggested about the coil airlock. Do you have any idea how long before I get good hot water again. Im a novice and don't understand the jargon. thankyou
I would assume that its a manual air vent probably fitted? Have you tried releasing any air, with a radiator key probably if not you may need a screwdriver, I couldn't tell you for sure without seeing the vent valve.
One thing that you could try is running the heating for a couple of hours with the thermostat on the back boiler turned almost to maximum, This may get some circulation going around the coil in the cylinder.
One thing, on one of the top radiators, if you try to bleed it with a rad key does any water dribble out?
