Hi Guys,

I'm by no means an electrician but have never had any issues installing new ceiling lights, etc.

We've had an electrician re-wire the house and ive just come to fit the light fitting in one of the rooms, a ceiling rose. The light switch is like this, which has been wired as you can see, COM/L1, this done by the electrician.

The ceiling rose only has 1 wire coming through as so, with a L/N/E, no matter how i connect these to the ceiling rose based on the installation diagram it just doesnt work. Can anyone shed any light on it for me please?

This is a box room with no other switches/lights, etc. Just 1 switch and 1 light.

Thanks in advance.

You need to connect the two browns together.

There, obviously, is a junction box or connections elsewhere.

You have checked the lamp/bulb ?

Sorry, we've all been there

Lamp gone, switch not working, failed connection elsewhere.

Has it ever worked since the rewire?
Do you have any testing equipment - multimeter?

Get electrician to come back.

Haha, yes i did change the bulb for one i know is working as i had a "wait a minute" moment!

No, this is the first time since the re-wire that anything has been fitted.

I guess with so many potential issues ill have to give him a call, problem being he's away darn' sarf' for a few weeks which is going to be an issue :(

Always something!! Thanks for all the help guys.

It's very likely the electrician has not finished the job properly then, if you've never had a working light connected to the new wiring.

Get the electrician back.

But remember, that light you've put up was never going to work unless the two browns were connected to the same brass connector block.

No i know mate, i actually did that first, 2 browns into the same connector block and then the blues into the same, nothing, dead, not a thing...

Thought I'd mention it.

You don't want to be a complete laughing stock when the electrician turns up. :D

Incidently, the cable at the switch is at least ten years old, so not a complete re-wire then!

well, there is clearly a JB somewhere, so I guess somethings loose, get him back. Don't be tempted to work live!!! If you don't have a multimeter, leave it alone.

Yeah i thought as much having looked into it! I doubt he imagined i would take the switch off though...

Am i right in thinking the brown should go to the brown and the blue to the sam connector block as the blue? Is that correct?
