Roof tile type

Hi,

Could any of you experienced roofers tell me the exact name of this tile:

The house is a 1890's build, I was lucky enough to find an exact match in a local reclamation yard a few years back but I only had enough cash to buy a few.

I was hoping if I knew the exact name it would help with a web search.

That is a typical machine made Rosemary/Acme plain clay tile, often vulnerable to delaminating. They would not have been the original tiles.

It must have been re roofed some time ago , there is no sarking felt, tiles are just scribed with lime mortar on the underside. Is it no way possible these were the originals?

There are two semis and all have the same tiles, would be strange for all four houses to have their roofs done at the same time.....

Is that definitely one of the original tiles or one used to repair the roof?
Rosemary tiles were first used in the mid 1800's so the roof could well be original but repaired with tiles manufactured at a later date.

They're all the same, I had to rebuild the portch as the frame was rotten...All tiles were of this exact type. And the main roof tiles are all the same as no felt so I can see them.

Is it possible they could be original?

It is possible that your roof is original as Rosemary tiles were first used in the 1830's and your roof certainly hasn't been renewed in the last 35-40(ish)years.

The pattern on the reverse I was hoping was a distinctive marking so I could identify the exact name.

Later Rosemary tiles had 'Rosemary'imprinted on the reverse side but this was later(1930's>). I'm not too sure what appeared on earlier tiles but as there werent many manufacturers back then I'd guess yours are Rosemary, I may be wrong but that's my guess.

I have some rosemary tiles from the 1950s extension and these are definitely different......
