Lintels for new extension

it tells you in the description..

1) no need for DPC through use of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP)
2) Thermal efficient : reduces thermal bridging

2 problems of steel lintels removed at point of manufacture thus cuts down work and reduces labour. In terms of strengh they will perform the same purpose.

How are they in terms of cost?

Thanks just really wondering if they are worth the extra price and if you would actually feel any benefit.

Thanks

You won't necessarily feel the benefit, as if you lose more heat, the heating system will just work slightly harder.

There is a chance they will prevent cold spots and potential mould growth if they can eliminate cold bridging, and maybe save you a little money on heating bills.

All steel cavity lintels have insulation and insignificant thermal transmission. IG's claims are tenuous and are paper based, with no real life benefits.

Agreed, the benefits are probably negligible unless you are trying to comply with the standards of a passive house.

A bit like argon filled DG units. Some of the double glazing industry claims are bonkers.

Best thing is, it only takes a tiny draft to negate any of these gimmicky claims. It's a pity quality workmanship wasn't so closely scrutinised and adhered to.
