Hi everyone
We just intalled the solar panels and we thought we should also get iboost solar for the maximum benefit. My husband says it looks very easy to install so we ordered one from Ebay. He installed it according to it But he says there is no electricity on the socket that the hot water tank attached to it. We have oil fired central heating and we have hot water all the time. There is no problem at all. But we are having problem with installing the iboost. Can someone help us please. Thank you

has your hot water cylinder got an immersion heater?

post some photos.

If you want to use the site's own photo library provision you'll find the instructions here: //www.diynot.com/network/DIYnot/albums/67/180

To get photo(s) to appear in your post you need to do all 11 steps. Stopping when all you've done is put them in an album won't do.

Or in a fraction of the time it takes to go through that PITA convoluted process you could use an image hosting site such as http://www.postimage.org . Or one of many others (preferably not Photobucket) - I personally like Postimage because of it's screen-scrape tool, which means you don't actually have to go to the site to upload photos.

Nearly there! To get the photo to appear try putting

Assuming that the supply to the unit comes from the switch with the yellow cable leaving it and that the electricity is dead here.

that switch must be fed from a fuse at some location so that is possibly what you need to find

Could we also have a picture of your fusebox and meter arrangements?

There is a possibility that the immersion heater supply has been switched off, disconnected or even that it's connected to an E7 night time only supply...

Hi again

My husband says it has immersion. and there is no electricity on the immersion .
Can you please help?
Thanks

For you to get the immersion to work you need a series of things to happen.
1) The Solar panels must be producing over 3kW in excess to what you are already using.
2) The iboost must know that so the current transformer must be fitted the correct way around and must have batteries and be paired to main iboost.
3) The iboost needs to detect a load so the thermostat on the immersion must be asking for heat.
4) It must be correctly wired.

There are a number of simple tests there is a Boost button, but the instructions do not say if the unit shows power being used when boost is pressed or not so may need the use of a clamp on ammeter to see if working or not. But at least if you know boost button works you will know the immersion is OK and the thermostat is calling for heat.

I personally will not view pictures not displayed on DIYnot as so often there are nasty pop ups on other sites it's not hard to upload pictures.

You need to say exactly what you have do to test. It is possible that your central heating has got the water too hot. After the babies death in 2002 there was a move to ensure all immersion thermostats have a over temperature disconnect device. Where electric is sole form of water heating these are non resettable but where there is a secondary form of heating there should be a reset button. Unfortunately this is not always the case and a fault with the secondary form of heating can mean the thermostat needs changing on the electric heating.

Reading the instructions if this was to happen I would expect to see:-
"Water Tank
HOT"
on the display.

You need to give a lot more information and a good start is what the display says. As it stands all we know is you say it's not working. If your car is not working it could be it has no petrol, or battery flat or other but is the car is not working and starter works we can eliminate the battery flat. It's the same here the more we know the more we can concentrate on the likely faults.
