I think there are such signs/plaques all over the place! There is certainly one similar to what you describe on the wall of the BT Centre in London. I've also come across ones in Wales and the West Country. I think they are commemorating all sorts of different interpretations/versions of "birthplace of radio"!We have signs saying "Birthplace of radio" near the old chelmsford Marconi site apparently pre 1900
