Hi,

I have a WB Greenstar W30si MK IV installed 2013, and the control panel has a mechanical timer, and on-off switch. Unfortunately it is in the kitchen at the far side of the flat, and I would like a thermostat/timer/switch nearer the living room.

Can anyone recommend a compatible and reliable unit that will do the trick? And would be easy for a DIY fit?

Also, is wired (I can easily run hidden wires through the loft etc to the desired location - maybe 15m or so needed, with the distance maybe 7 metres as the crow flies) more reliable than wireless? One issue putting me off a wireless version is that due to walls etc, trying to use the modem over a similar distance gets frequent disconnections.

Thanks

probably, but I was wanting to avoid something like that as is a) expensive and b) probably overkill. just looking for something cheap and reliable

The Salus RT500RF is a great wireless thermostat and cheap as chips @£35 on amazon. I dont have any signal problems with mine.... the signal goes through two brick walls. Check on amazon but I believe they advertise 30m range... and in the amazon reviews a lot of complaints about neighbours units interfering (btw theres a easy way to fix this if on the off chance your neighbour also has a salus installed). So range wise it's pretty decent considering you could even control your neighbours boiler!

I managed to install it OK and I'm as thick as a brick!

Salus stuff is utter cack.
Are there any other brands to look for?

Also, taking the front off your boiler is breaking the room seal and as such gas work.
Bit of stray gas never hurt anyone . I presume the existing thermostat lifts out and any new unit drops in quite easily? What would be a rough cost to get this bit done by my plumber?

You might as well get the official Wooshitter Botch unit and preserve the warranty.

If you time the change with a boiler service it will cost nothing more than the additional cost of the unit.
