Hi all,

Hope you've had a good Christmas! Has any one experienced the JG Aura thermostats calling for heat at midnight for 5 minutes, despite the timers? These are installed in new build with underfloor heating. All setup individually.

My schedule turns it to the night setting at about 8pm and the temperature to call for heat is 14degs. At midnight last night, all 3 of my controllers kicked in and called for heat, turning on my boiler despite the settings saying it shouldn't. It last 5 minutes and then kicked off.

This was very frustrating as we hear the boiler kick in and wakes us up in the morning, our alarm clock.

Any help greatly appreciated. I'm going to call my plumber on Tuesday and JG, but if anybody knows the reason why, might save me a call!

Without being familiar with your installation or the product, I have only been able to have a quick view of the pdf online manual for the stats you have.
I would hazard a guess (and it is only that from where I am sitting ;)) that it is down to one of the extraneous overrides provided by the group programmer! There is mention of holiday, frost and 'party' modes - check that these are set as you would want them! Maybe your system has been setup to believe that you have a 5 minute party at midnight on Boxing Day!!
Check these modes.
If any part of your setup is wireless (which I don't think it is) then I would have said that something was interfering with the wireless signal!
Hope this helps, let us know.

Thanks, they aren't wireless. I will go through the setup again. It's a bit strange as they are all setup so they are individual, so for the, all to kick in a midnight is a bit strange.

Cheers

Neil

Not a good company then? I've just reset my controllers in case I had that 5 minute midnight Boxing Day party . Set my time to 23:59 on 26/12 and at midnight the boiler calls for heat, what ever I do it won't stop. Changing the time, putting it into frost setting. Is the same for all 3 of my controllers.

Tried every day of the week and it Is just a Saturday!!! Will be calling my plumber and JG on Tuesday.

It's like it is a weekly maintenance setting!

They are also set up as individual PRTs, there is no communication between them.

Most modern boilers have a 24hr pump spin to stop the pump siezing, is the boiler actually firing up or can you hear just the pump ?

But would a boiler checking itself out show on the controllers? Also, how would the boiler know that I changed the time back to Saturday and it still kicked in. I know what you mean, but isn't this if the boiler hasn't kicked in for 24 hours it does a check.

No the pump spin would not show on the controllers, it was just a thought as it would be unusual for all three stats to have the same fault/wrong setup.

Ok I see, thanks. I think it's either a bug in the controller software or a rather stupid system qwerk!?!?!

So, no matter what date you set, to fool the programmers, as soon as it ticks round to midnight on the following Saturday, they each call for heat in unison?
Weird!
I would be thinking along the same lines as you, i.e. defective or poorly designed product!
Before calling the manufacturer, for my own curiosity, and to prove my suspicions, I would be attempting to remove one of the devices and wire it up, out of situ, to a 3amp plug and a lamp on the Call for Heat terminals to repeat the fault in isolation!
But do this with caution...230v etc etc.

Does your PRT have any unprogrammed slots that start and stop at midnight on Saturday? e.g. your heat pattern is:
slot 1 on - 0700
slot 1 off - 1000
slot 2 on - 1600
slot 2 off - 2200
slot 3 on - 0000
slot 3 off - 0000

maybe the controller software is stupid and turns on at midnight, then doesn't check the time again for 5 minutes and hence doesn't see the "off" time until 5 minutes later. Program some other times into all the slots and see if the behaviour changes

Not sure I'm confident enough to wire to a 240v socket.

My PRT does have some Unprogrammed slots, but they show --.--
