Dear Experts,

I'm considering fitting a couple of lights at the top and bottom of the steps that lead up from my back door, maybe these Screwfix ones:

Ideally they would project just a modest amount of light horizontally to reduce the tripping hazard; I don't want to flood the area with light. Can anyone recommend a suitable light for this? It would be much easier to fix to the ground (flat concrete) rather than the wall (random wonky stonework). Has anyone used that Screwfix one?

I'll probably connect them with SWA, which will have to enter horizontally at the back. It's not clear to me whether those lamps have suitable cutouts where SWA glands could be fitted. Potentially I need two, one for incoming power and one out to the next light. Do you think I can just assume they are suitable?

Thanks!

That would sound like a very dangerous (and quite probably incorrect) assumption to me!

Kind Regards, John

From the bottom would be much less likely to lead to them filling up with water.

That involves digging big holes in the concrete, though.

It's a shame they don't have any fitting instructions online for these.

Hmmm.

Indeed. The Screwfix listing says "Product contents: Fitting and LED driver". Are you sure that the "driver" is not a separate entity which is meant to be housed indoors, with the feed from it to the light fitting being ELV?

Kind Regards, John
