I have a light fitting bought from next which has 7 lights at 10w each. They stopped working so I investigated and using a multimeter determined that there was power into the transformer but the other side where it should be 12v there was nothing. Now the transformer that was in the fitting is round so the odds of me finding one that fits is against me. I have been looking on screwfix website for a similar transformer but am after guidance so I buy the right one. The old one says that its wattage is 35-105w. I have seen this one http://www.screwfix.com/prods/51565...C-Low-Voltage-Electronic-Transformer-50-150VA does anyone think I will have any problems if I used this and I take it its safe to mount it in the loft.

Any help appreciated

That is fine to mount in a loft.

It looks to be a suitable wattage.

How many lamps and what wattage are they?

The transformer you linked to is capable of running the lights you have.

Some may consider it a little OTT. A 35 - 105 VA unit is available from the same source.

Some electronic transformers will shut themselves down if the minimum load criteria isn't satisfied, so a couple of lamps failing may lead to the output shutting down, whereas it would take four failures before that happened to the smaller unit.

And then there's these:-
