Austin Rover

Thanks. Always liked big tanks. Ford, Vauxhall, Rover, Jags.

This thread is becoming far too anorak, and is in danger of being locked. :cautious:

I was a fan of the Mk II Granada, talking of tanks.
Fancy a late C plate. Add it to the list!!

The only C plate Mk II's I have seen have been Police cars, but maybe there were some registered some privately too.

Had several Mk I, II, and III Granadas.

I always liked big cars - I put this down to watching TV in the sixties and all the American programmes.

The first car I bought myself (Dad gave me his Ford Pop after I passed my test) was a 1955 Mk I Zodiac - SGU 999 :), £55 in 1965.
All the cars I ever had are now Classics worth a fortune.

Have had automatics ever since and can't understand Britain where they are so unpopular - especially for people who are only interested in getting from A to B - Edit - and of course those who can't really drive.

Am not anti-auto but the only one I ever owned was the Rekord.

I test drove a Skoda Superb with DSG in 2009. Was a bit miffed because they knew I was driving over to Mansfield to have the test drive, knew I wanted a manual but failed to have one available. They also didn't remind us about bringing our licences, so only I could drive as Mrs Secure had left hers at home.

It was a great shifter (in both senses of the word!) but when I got back to the dealer, I had a brain-dead moment and totally forgot it was DSG, slamming my left foot on the brake thinking it was the clutch.

Great brakes too! And the seatbelts did their job....

I can't find records for your old car. If it is still around, I don't think it is carrying that plate anymore, unless records are not kept for older cars. It was London-registered, but then you probably knew that!

Probably long since scrapped.

Not as bad as the other way round when you slam your left foot on the clutch thinking it's the brake.
You get used to everything.

Of course, it is recommended when driving an automatic that you only use the right foot but - two pedals, two feet ???.

Yeah, I know! I have only owned one but driven a few for work over the years. I always get into an automatic telling myself to tuck my left foot out of the way and started out well... The only other time I have done left foot braking is in a rally car.

Always liked the Grannys. A decent 2.8 Ghia X fetches strong money these days. Used to be able to buy them for a few hundred, now anything good fetches several thousand. Wouldn't mind a MK1, especially in Roman Bronze. Can play at being Regan and Carter.

The Mk3 is a great car. Drove one back from France some years ago, 5 up and the cavernous boot full of our duty free. Only the lowly 2 litre, but it pulled like a train all the way. Not sure if it's quite reached classic status, but I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. May take a while longer for the ugly duckling Scorpio to get there, but there's still plenty out there for sale. Lot of car for very little money. If you can get over the looks.

An early Mk3 Granada 4x4 or a late bug eye Granada estate with the 24 valve Cosworth engine. I'd make room in my garage for either
